- Co. G 7th Reg. Ohio Volunteer In; Private, He enlisted for 3 years. His regiment was at the Battle of Winchester, VA on March 23, 1861 (also noted as the Battle of Kernstown, VA). John was wounded by a ramrod through his right hand during the Battle of Port Republic, VA on June 9, 1862. He was discharged at Washington, DC on October 28, 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability.
